It can be stressful trying to get yourself a job, which can be worse if you are from a foreign country – but being from a different country may actually enhance your chances of getting a job in the UK! This is because it shows you have extra language skills and are able to adapt your skillset to work well in different situations. However, if you still find yourself worrying about getting a job in the UK – take a look at some of the tips below.
Get Your Paperwork Ready
When you’re first going through the process of applying for new jobs, one of the first things your employer will make sure of is that you can legally work in the United Kingdom. If you are a member of the EU, you will be able to work in the country without obtaining a UK visa as long as you have a national insurance number. If you are not a member of the European Union, you will be granted British citizenship once your place has been decided on the 5-tier visa system which is in place in the UK. It will also be useful to have the certification of any educational qualifications at hand to show your potential employers.
Think Outside the Box
When you’re searching for work in this country, don’t put all the emphasis on the qualifications you already have, but instead, try and put emphasis on the personal skills you have which set you apart from others. There’s a number of industries which will be seeking people who can speak another language (translators, interpreters etc.) but if that’s not really your thing, try contacting big businesses which have offices based around other areas of the world.
The reason for this is there will be a number of big companies in the UK which may have offices in the UK where they have jobs available for people who can speak both languages. This opens a lot of potential avenues for the type of job you do, and it can give you a very stable job.
Utilise the Internet
One of the best ways to find a job in the UK is through doing some networking, which can be done digitally! Think about getting on LinkedIn and find people who currently work in the industry you would like to work in, or find recruiters who are looking for candidates just like yourself. You can then introduce yourself to these people and let them know about your current situation, and even if they can’t offer you a job right away you will be in their heads should a role ever come up which is suitable for you.
