Biography
Bhumi Pednekar is a Bollywood actress born on 18th July 1989, currently 29 years of age. She was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India to Late Satish and Sumitra and has a twin sister Samiksha. Unmarried and without children, Bhumi is a leading actress in Bollywood films, having won several different awards throughout her career.
She started off her career as “not skinny”, but with a healthy weight and height proportion. She has never been someone to diet because she has always loved food and has on one occasion stated that “Food makes me happy. It’s for the soul”.
Her weight loss journey has been an inspiring story for all her fans and she recently shared her weight loss tips on Instagram. Surprisingly, her weight loss did not require much effort on her part, all she did was follow an Indian diet and choose healthier alternatives to her usual meals.
Bhumi Pednekar’s Weight History
Although she was never skinny, she was not always fat either. It was at the age of 18 that she stepped into the movie industry while accepting an offer of an unconventional debut. Bhumi took the auditions for the movie and was selected, but at the cost of her appearance.
At the delicate age of 28, she was required to gain 20 to 25 kilograms for the role that she was to play. Accepting the requirement, she went on a journey of eating high-calorie food including dal makhani, butter chicken, pizzas, Mughli dishes, paranthas, sweets, and much more all through the day and ultimately weighed as much as 92 kilograms when it was finally time for the big movie.
As surprising as it sounds, her astounding weight gain was only a temporary phenomenon. By the time of the film’s release, she had lost nearly all the extra weight she had put on, 21kilos lighter already! When she came to receive the award for her role in the film, she left the audience aghast at her amazing change.
Struggles with Weight Loss
When Bhumi entered the film industry with the debut film posing as a very fat bride, she had led everyone to believe that she would be the “fat girl” who would only be able to get similar roles in the future and make do with her extra weight.
She claims that it took her 2 and a half years to lose the weight she had gained and it was an exhausting journey that she would never decide to take again. She points out that one should love their body and let others love theirs’. Self-acceptance is a necessity and judging others is highly degrading. This indicates how Bhumi herself must have faced criticism over the years for her weight and how it encouraged her to love herself regardless of her weight.
How Did Bhumi Lose So Much Weight
Bhumi never visited a nutritionist, dietician, or any professional. It was all her own struggle! Although, she also admits that it did not require much effort, only a slight change in routine while adopting a healthy diet.
Weight Loss Secrets
1. Healthy Indian Diet Plan
Being a food lover, Bhumi did not find it easy to leave most of her favorite dishes but she managed to shift to a breakfast, lunch, and dinner routine that was very effective in the long run.
Breakfast
She posted her breakfast routine on Instagram. She started off her days with a glass of warm detox water and after thirty minutes had elapsed, took her breakfast. The breakfast typically consisted of muesli, skimmed milk, and sunflower or flax seeds. Later, before she left for the gym, she took whole-wheat bread, 2 egg white omelets, and any fruit, preferably apple or papaya.
Lunch
Bhumi’s lunch routine included simple homemade meals that included vegetables, roti, and dal. The roti is made of jawar, soya, chana, bajra, or other such grains, instead of wheat. Other than this, she preferred grilled chicken, green chutney, mustard, and brown bread.
Snacks
Snacking is often considered unhealthy and fattening but Bhumi showed that healthy snacking on fruits like apple, papaya, pear, or guava, with a cup of green tea and almonds, can really help.
Dinner
A simple and light dinner at 7:00 PM was Bhumi’s daily ritual. It consisted of a bowl of salad, an apple, walnuts, and dried berries, seasoned with vinegar. At times she preferred to make herself grilled chicken, grilled fish, or feta cheese.
2. Workout Routine
Bhumi had always been healthy and had plenty of weight on her body, to begin with, making it harder to start with the high-intensity exercises. She started by conditioning herself and preparing for the intense workout slowly and steadily.
Her regular exercise routine included running, functional training, swimming, and Bollywood dancing. She practiced both cardio and weight lifting frequently at the gym and did this about thrice a week.
She emphasizes how one also needs to keep moving instead of lazing around all day. Walking up the stairs or walking around to get things done yourself is a necessary component of maintaining a healthy weight.
In all, her weight loss journey doesn’t sound very difficult, does it? All it requires is a healthy lifestyle and a change in some preferences.
Conclusion
Bhumi Pedenker’s weight loss journey is truly inspiring for anyone struggling with weight. She has shown how a little dedication can make you achieve so much. However, she also emphasizes that one should love one’s body regardless of its weight, shape, or appearance, fat-shaming is degrading and should be avoided at all costs.
