She was found by a modeling scout at the Elite Model Management who was her mother’s agent as well. She stepped into her dream career originally in 2013 by winning the Elite Model Look in France and later was able to sign a contract with them. Her first runway walk was for Eudon Choi in 2014 and continued her outstanding performances in F/W 15 fashion week 2015 where she was able to make her major breakthrough as she walked for exemplary brands such as Louis Vuitton, Veronique Leroy, Kenzo, and Miu Miu. She even made her way to the Dior Resort fashion show in Tokyo. The same year Chen walked for Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Michael Kors, Victoria Beckham, Emilio Pucci, Shiatzy Chen, Chloe, and other relevant brands. Chen finally made it to the Vogue Italia cover in 2016.

As she wrote, “It always seemed like there were only ‘select’ slots available in the shows for models of color, so that was really hard to understand at the beginning, It kind of still is, even if the industry is more open now to diversity”.
