Paul Sorvino was born on 13th April 1939 in Brooklyn to parents Ford Sorvino and Angela Maria Mattea. His mother was a piano teacher, while his father was a robe manufacturing factory employee. Due to his mother being passionate about teaching and practicing piano, Paul was much interested in taking piano and singing lessons from his mother. His passion for performance further led him to perform on the stage. He got admission to Lafayette High School, where he found the companionship of a  famous painter Peter Max. To pursue his career in the acting field, Paul joined American Musical & Dramatic Academy in high school. While still in the academy and enjoying musical classes, he started taking acting classes and even preferred it over music. He was signed by a talent agency for his vocals and debuted on Broadway in 1964.

In 1971, he was cast in a supportive role along with Al Pacino in the movie ‘The Panic in Needle Park’ which was a hit by the critics.
