Buying Kids Bikes

Category : Lifestyle

Cycling in the UK has long been one of the most desirable past times. It keeps you fit, healthy and helps to shed those excess pounds. Popularity of the humble bike started long ago, as a great means of transport getting people from A to B much faster and more efficient than walking. People soon discovered Cycling was a great way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the new wave cycling movement was born…gyms have never been the same ever since!

In recent years Cycling team Great Britain has done even more for cycling in the UK. Winning gold after gold in Olympic games over the past 20 years and more. Countless kids have watched the Olympic greats such as Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton, achieve greatness and help inspire a whole new generation of cycling enthusiasts.

As a parent you have all heard those wonderful words: “Mum, Dad, I want to get a bike!”. A proud moment and almost the first sign that your child wants some independence, even if it is just a few feet ahead of you on the path, they are living their own free life, which feels great!

You like so many other parents out there have such an abundance of choice of child bikes it is hard to know where to begin and what to look for. Bike Shop London has compiled a mini list that should help you get started and ensure you find the perfect bike for your little one, or two or more.

3 Must-Follow Safety Features For Kids Mountain Bikes

Remember carefree summer days spent riding your bike all over the neighborhood? Remember racing your friends across open fields? Before the invention of video games, kids spent much more time outdoors than they typically do today. You can help your son or daughter discover – or rediscover – the pleasure of outdoor activity and the joys and challenges of bike riding. Help your child get ready for off-road fun and adventure with our boy’s and girl’s mountain bikes with these important safety components.

  1. Get The Right Size
It can be tempting to buy a bike your child can grow into. It’s important for his or her safety, though, that you get the mountain bike that fits the size they are right now. Mounting and riding a bike that’s too big or too small is not only uncomfortable for the child, it can make them apprehensive about the ride. It also increases the risk of falls and injuries. Your child should be able to easily swing their leg over the bike frame and straddle it without touching it.

  1. Get Dressed
While you’re investing in a boy’s or girl’s mountain bike, make sure you invest in the appropriate safety gear as well. That means purchasing a helmet, gloves, elbow and knee pads that fit snuggly. Padded bike pants and chest protectors are also a good idea. Choose pieces that are lightweight and fit comfortably.
  2. Get Noticed
Make sure your child stands out for more than their cool bike skills. Dress them in bright colors. Outfit their mountain bike with neon strips and reflectors. Teach them all the safety rules adult riders follow and demand that they adhere to them with no compromises.

  1. Get Gears
Is there anything more frustrating than coming up to a hill and not being able to change your gear to a lower lighter gear? Remember if it seems difficult for you, it is going to be 5 times harder for your child on their mountain bike. Plus gears are fun, your child will love changing up and down, showing their friends, and after all that’s what cycling should be, fun!

  1. Get Lights
Make sure that any bike you purchase has some lights on it. But don’t worry even if your chosen bike does not have any lights attached, you can order some from Amazon and they are super easy to fit. Having lights is a must, even when cycling during the day, it is good practice to put the lights on your childrens bikes.

  1. Get Colourful
Choosing a bright bold colorful bike is a must for any parent buying their kids bicycle. Who wants a drab boring grey or black mountain bike, when they could be riding a Disney themed sparkling pink girls mountain bike? Or perhaps a neon blue Power Rangers boys mountain bike! The point is, there are loads of options, so be creative.

  1. Get a bigger size
Always try and get a bigger size than your child currently needs. If they can just about touch the floor with the seat all the way down, then that means the bike will last your child for the next few years, as you can always just raise the seat.

Above all else remember to have fun. Buying your child a bike is a rewarding and lasting experience. There are not many things better in life than taking your child to the park and riding a round having fun for a few hours.
