Full Guide to Deep Frying a Whole Chicken

To effectively cook a whole chicken, you must use deep fat frying. It is a simple method that is used in everyday lives. Deep fat frying, or deep frying, is a process where the whole food is submerged in the oil with the right temperature.

Successful deep fry makes the food crispy on the outside as well as cooked inside. It is a very simple and direct process.

Preparation

Before deep frying a chicken, make sure to prepare it first. Check if you have a fresh chicken. Wash it well with cold water, don’t use hot. Make sure to rinse the chicken thoroughly so that it is clean. If your chicken has a pop out timer, remove it. It is not useful for deep fry.

Also, check the inside of the chicken. Some products still have innards, which you don’t want them to fry the chicken with.

After cleaning the chicken, prepare your seasonings. You can choose whatever seasonings depending on the type of flavor that you want. Common seasonings are pepper, salt, and paprika. You can include spices and herbs and put it inside the cavity. For effective seasoning, mix first all your seasoning together before putting in the chicken. This will make an even combination of flavors.

Dry first the chicken before applying the seasoning. If it is wet, the seasonings, which are in powder form, will not stick to the meat. Instead, it will stick to the water. Rub the season on the inside and outside of the chicken. Spread the seasonings throughout in an even manner. You want all parts of the chicken to be flavored. Season the chicken as many times as you want.

If you will you will use flavor injections, make sure that the puncture gaps are spread in the whole chicken. This is to make sure that the flavor is spread throughout. Flavor injections are great since it adds flavor to the meat of the chicken. If it is spread evenly, then the result will be a perfect flavored chicken that will surely boost your appetite.

You have the option to put it in the fridge for three to four hours. If you will do that, put foil around the chicken before putting it in the fridge. This additional process will help your seasonings stick to the chicken.

Another option you can do is to tie the chicken. It will make sure that the initial form of the chicken is preserved.

Cooking

You are now done with the preparation. Cooking the chicken is a very straightforward manner. However, there are some points that you must check.

  • Make sure that the oil is enough to submerge the whole chicken. Otherwise, the part of the chicken that is not submerged will be undercooked.
  • If your chicken is coming from the fridge, make sure that there are no ice crystals formed on the inside.
  • Wear proper cooking attire since oil may splatter when putting in the chicken.

After confirming this points, it’s time to fry the chicken. Before putting the chicken, heat the oil for up to 350 degrees F.

If your oil is now hot and set, you can now put in the chicken. Gently lower the chicken into the oil. Most deep fryers today have racks that you can put your chicken.

You can cook your chicken for 45-50 minutes. After cooking, you can check the temperature of the chicken to make sure it is well cooked. A well-cooked chicken will have a meat of 180 degrees F and 165 degrees F for the thigh and breast. Of course, those numbers are not absolute and you can still have a decent cooked chicken if the temperature is a little off.

If the chicken is undercooked, you can simply put it back in the deep fryer, it will not get damaged even if you already sliced it. Put it back for another 5 minutes or so.

Post Process

After the chicken is cooked, remove it from the oil and let it cool off for about 10 to 15 minutes before cutting. The muscles of the chicken are still tight. If you cut it at that state, it will easily dry out. If you let it cool off, the meat will be tender and juices will start to appear. That is the sign of a perfectly deep fried chicken.
