How to Soothe Irritated Skin Around Eyes Naturally

There can be several reasons for rashes near the eyes area. Some of the few reasons are allergies and inflammation. Any substance can trigger reactions around the eyes, and it makes rashes all around the eye. Sometimes this can cause burning, stinging, and itching sensation around the eyes. This makes the eye area look scaly, red, and dry. 

Red burning and itchy eyes may be very uncomfortable, but it is not a sign much to worry about.

1. Apple Vinegar

Due to the antimicrobial properties of Apple cider vinegar, it removes bacteria from the skin and heals rashes fast. All you would need to follow this remedy is one teaspoon of vinegar mixed with one tablespoon of water. 2. Essential Oil


Essential oils are also older and proven home remedies for treating skin infections and allergies by regulating the blood circulation in that specific area. For example, you can make a mixture of coconut oil and castor oil and apply it over the affected area. Moreover, these two oils are also beneficial for skin health and hydration.

3. Cucumber


Cucumber has a cooling effect, which soothes the skin and lessens inflammation. Take slices of cucumber and keep them in your eyes for 10 minutes. Repeat this remedy thrice a day for better and effective results. For better results, soak cucumber slices in ice-cold water for 10 minutes, then place the slice pieces over your eyes.

4. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera plant has anti-inflammatory properties, which help in soothing the rashes and lessens inflammation over the skin. Take one strip of aloe vera and extract its gel. Mix the gel with ice-cold water, and then apply the mixture around your eyes with the help of a clean cotton ball.

5. Cold Compress


Cold compress is one of the best and easiest remedies for soothing rashes around the eyes and anywhere over the skin. You would just need an ice pack with ice in it and press it gently over the inflamed skin. Cold compress around the eyes area also lessens swelling. 

6. Chamomile


Chamomile in dried flower form has healing and anti-inflammatory properties, which soothes redness and rashes around the eye area. Using dried chamomile flowers has no harm or side effects to the eyes. You just need to add dried flowers in hot water. Let the water cool a bit and dab cotton into it. Then, apply cotton all over the irritated area.

7. Frozen Peas


Using frozen peas over the irritated area delivers almost the same results as an ice compress. You just need to wrap the pea’s packet in a soft towel and press the towel on the area around the eyes for not more than ten minutes. This remedy will provide instant relief to the affected eyes. 

8. Rosewater


Rosewater is also one of the oldest traditional, most used traditional, and tried remedies for treating eye redness, infections, and allergies. As the rose is an anti-inflammatory flower so its water is enriched with healing properties. Rosewater helps as a toner as it improves the flow of blood and its healing properties heal scars and rashes. You can use rose water drops and pour them directly into your eyes or you can also use cotton dabbed in rose water and place it over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes for a healing effect. 

9. Witch Hazel


Witch hazel solution is easily available in the market and it has anti-inflammatory properties. Witch hazel also contains astringent that helps in lessening swelling and heals rashes fast. You would need to take a cotton ball, dab it in the witch hazel solution and rub it over the infected area around your eyes.

Some Precautions

If you have this issue of red and irritated eyes, you need to take some necessary precautions to prevent this issue from happening on regular basics:

  1. Don’t take long-distance drives without breaks
  2. Wear sunglasses when out in the sun
  3. Don’t read in insufficient light
  4. Don’t stare at your cellphone or computer screen for so long. Or wear protective glasses.
